1. Where Our Names Come From

Every surname and given name on this site comes from a hand-curated database — 270+ Chinese surnames and 370+ given names at the time of writing. Each entry is manually entered with its Chinese character, pinyin, English meaning, meaning category, and — where applicable — the classical allusion behind it. We do not crawl, scrape, or auto-generate name entries. When a translation request misses our database, it is logged and reviewed as a candidate for manual addition.

2. How the Generator Works

The Chinese name generator is rule-based, not a black box. It offers three transparent matching methods — phonetic (sound-alike surname), zodiac (birth-year animal), and meaning-based (ten fixed meaning categories) — and every suggestion it shows is a real database entry with its meaning displayed. It never invents characters or combinations, and no part of the pipeline uses AI generation — suggestions, meanings, and rankings all come from the curated database and the rule-based matching described above.

3. What "Popularity" Means Here

Ranked lists on this site (for example popular girl names) are ranked by how often visitors pick a name in our generator, updated continuously. Surname frequency tiers (Popular / Common / Rare) and historical statements — like the standing of 王 (Wáng) and 李 (Lǐ) — reflect well-established facts about Chinese surnames, not our internal counts.

4. Accuracy Standards & Corrections

• Pinyin and tones are provided per standard Hanyu Pinyin; multi-reading characters are annotated where they occur.
• Meanings are given as the character's sense in the context of naming, not every dictionary definition.
• Surname origin stories stick to widely documented history (ancient states, fiefs, official titles). We do not publish origins we cannot trace.
• Found an error? Tell us the page and the character — verified corrections ship in the next site update.

5. What We Do Not Do

• We never present a generated name as an official translation — see the Disclaimer.
• We do not publish horoscope predictions or fortune-telling claims; zodiac content is cultural explanation only.
• We do not fabricate statistics. When a number appears on a page, it comes from our database or from cited common knowledge.
• Content designed to mock names, cultures, or groups of people has no place on this site.

6. Updates

The database and pages are updated as corrections and new entries are verified — not on a fixed calendar, and never by rewriting dates without changing content. Structural changes to the site are described plainly in the pages themselves.
